Financial Advisory

Financial Advisory

We review the financial statements of your business with you, identify where costs can be reduced and where spending is worth increasing, and set out how cash flow and capital structure can be improved. Where tax, accounting or legal questions come up, we work with your accountant and lawyer.

Reviewing the Financials

We start with the numbers you already have: income statements, balance sheets, bank statements and any management reports you keep. We read them with you, explain what they show about margins, debt and working capital, and identify the areas that need attention first.

Cutting Costs

We go through operating expenses line by line to find costs that can be reduced, renegotiated or removed without weakening the business. Each recommendation is explained in writing, with the expected effect on margins, so you can decide what to act on.

Where to Spend

Some costs are worth increasing. We help you decide where additional spending on staff, equipment, marketing or systems is likely to support the business, and where it is not, so that the budget follows the priorities you set.

Cash Flow

We map the timing of receivables, payables, payroll, rent and debt payments to show when cash is tight and why. From there we build a cash flow forecast and set out the options for smoothing the gaps, including payment terms, collections and an operating line where one is appropriate.

Capital Structure

We review how the business is financed: owner equity, term debt, lines of credit, shareholder loans and leases. Where the mix is expensive, restrictive or out of step with the business, we set out the alternatives and, if you choose, our lending team can arrange the financing.

How an Engagement Works

We begin with a short discovery call to understand the business and the question you want answered. We then propose a written scope with deliverables and a timeline. The review is presented to you in a meeting, with a written summary you can share with your accountant, lawyer or lenders.

Financial advisory does not replace your accountant or lawyer. Tax filings, audits and legal matters stay with them, and we coordinate with them where their input is needed.

FAQ

Common Questions

Is this the same as business consulting?

No. Business consulting covers strategy, operations and business plans. Financial advisory focuses on the numbers: the financial statements, costs, cash flow and how the business is financed. The two can be combined in one engagement.

Do I need to send my financial statements before the first call?

No. After the scope is agreed we ask for the last two to three years of statements, recent bank statements and any management reports you keep.

Do you prepare tax returns or audited statements?

No. Tax filings, audits and reviewed statements stay with your accountant. We work from the statements they prepare and coordinate with them where needed.

Can you arrange financing after the review?

Yes. If the review points to a change in financing, our lending team can help arrange it; any mortgage is processed through RMA Mortgages. Financing is a separate engagement and is optional.
